Brief Profile

Maria Malik belongs from Lahore District of Punjab. She was born on January 24, 1987 and received her early education at Army Public School for Girls and Fazaia Inter College, Lahore. After completing her intermediate she joined Kinnaird College for Women Lahore from where she completed her Bachelor Honours in Political Science in 2010. During her college years, she was elected as the President of Urdu Club and was also an active member of student council. She completed her MPhil. in Defence and Strategic Studies in 2012 from Quaid e Azam University, Islamabad. She is an Alumni of Center for Civic Education Pakistan with which she has been involved in different projects for active citizenship, youth activism, democracy, federalism and fundamental rights. She is author of ‘Balochistan Conundrum - The Real Perspective’ which was published in 2013. Currently she is teaching at the Department of Political Science at Kinnaird College, Lahore and is writing a discussion paper on ‘Drivers of Conflict Transformation in Balochistan’ in collaboration with UNDP.

Third Session

Ms. Maria Malik (YP35-PUNJAB16) would like to move the following resolution: "This House is of the opinion that a ‘single official process', for the management and resolution of electoral complaints by the citizens and candidates, regarding different phases and aspects of the electoral process (such as the conduct of the polling staff and public officials, location of the polling stations, violations of the code of conduct by candidates or/and political parties) is required in Pakistan".

Ms. Maliha Sahar (YP01-AJK01) and Ms. Maria Malik (YP35-PUNJAB16) would like to move the following resolution: "This House is of the opinion that as recommended by the EU Election Observer Mission 2013, a clear system of filing administrative complaints to the ECP and petitions to the Tribunals shall be established and incorporated in the Representation of People Act (1976). This would avoid overlapping of jurisdictions and improve the clarity and predictability of access to remedy."

Ms. Maria Malik (YP35-PUNJAB16) and Syed Tassawur Kazmi (YP10-GB02) would like to present a private member's bill on the Constitutional Status of Gilgit Baltistan.

Syed Tassawur Mehdi Kazmi (YP10-GB02) Mr. Javed Ali Manwa (YP09-GB01) Mr. Irshad Ahmad (YP53-SINDH06) and Ms. Maria Malik (YP35-PUNJAB16) would like to move the following resolution: "This House expresses deep concern over the move to roll back the constitutional rights guaranteed to people under the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self Governance Order-2009, particularly on the appointment of Governor of Gilgit Baltistan. This House also believes that the whole Interim Government and Governor are selected on a political basis by violating rules and regulations paving way for pre-poll rigging in the upcoming GBLA Elections."
